Here’s the thing about chasing an endless summer

19 Dec

We love summer – don’t get us wrong – but we’ve been in it for possibly longer than the last 365 days, and have realised that there is definitely good cause for cooler weather. Right now we’re technically in winter, and for most of the Northern Hemisphere, it’s in full force, but we are closer to the equator and are experiencing a blissfully sunny and sweaty season. We’ve been absorbing all the vitamin D we can, enjoying the crystal blue sea water with a daily swim and relishing the feeling of shorts, t-shirts and sand between our toes, because we know that for us, winter is coming in the extreme. So I found myself thinking that I should write this post before I find myself freezing my butt off, cursing our decision to move to Canada and dreaming of warmer days, and to be a constant reminder that winter isn’t all that bad. Best Macarons in Paris

9 Jul

macarons01

We knew that Paris is famous for it’s macarons and thought it best to test them out for ourselves. After a bit of research, we found that Ladurée was the best to try out. We headed to their store on Rue Royale near jardin des Tuileries, chose six flavours; salted caramel, raspberry, strawberry mint, chocolate coconut, vanilla and strawberry candy, and headed to the Eiffel Tower.

I could hardly breath, the vanilla and salted caramel where THAT GOOD! Joshs eyes nearly popped out of his head over the strawberry candy.

The chocolate coconut was super tasty, complete with marshmallow centre. I tried to get him to like it, but well… his face says it all.

Thought we’d draw up a little map of our trip throughout Ireland (yep here comes the graphic designer in me). We popped on our favourite spots, but you should get in contact if you’d like advice about campsites; here to stay and where to avoid.

Red Buses – travel with the locals

Getting to London was clearly a bit of a headache for us, but once we arrived, things went pretty smoothly and because London is so easy to get around, we jumped straight on the underground to our first nights accommodation. We’ve been booking our accommodation through a company called Air BnB, and it’s been a great experience so far. We stayed with the lovely Hilda, who welcomed us in from the dreary London drizzle, explained a few things, gave us an Oyster card each (like a Myki – total money saver) and left us to wash off the plane and get to bed, it being about 10pm and all. Seems AirChina delays worked in our favour. Read more…

How to Pack For Long Term Travel – Men’s Version

6 Jun

joshs-clothes-trip

I have been told I have a problem with buying too much clothing. As we were packing up our house I decided to go through my wardrobe and give away the clothes I didn’t need or didn’t wear any more. This turned out to be allot more than I thought I had.

I wouldn’t say that I am an expert at this, and hopefully toward the end of our trip I can update this with all my mistakes and new tips, but I’ve been booking my own flights for some time now and can tell you all about my way of doing it.

DIY gadget backpack

diy-camera-bag-1

As a bit of a gadget freak I could not leave for the biggest adventure of my life without packing a few toys to play with along the way. I wanted to be able to document everything we do and with Kirsty being so design savy I needed something to bring to the table. As I looked around for bag options the first thing I had to figure out was what tech was I going to take.

There will always be more stuff

7 May

there-will-always-more-stuff

When we first started talking about the trip, we spent many hours discussing what we wanted to keep and what we would sell. You see it wasn’t as simple as just packing things into boxes and opening them at the other end of moving and re-positioning all the stuff. We categorised everything, asked our parents what items of ours they would like to have/keep safe, and which they would be willing to take. Read more…
